[BYAKEMUTSE] My phone is not detected by my computer. It gets charged but I cannot transfer data, why?

Follow these steps:
1. Right Click "MY COMPUTER/MY PC" and select properties.
2. Select Device manager
3. Select the USB which is connected to the computer. Mostly there will be error symbol will be displayed
4. Right click the USB port and select update driver
5. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
6. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
7. This will present a long list of potential hardware types–Select “Android Device” or “Android Phone" or Android Tablet as per your phone. (For Lenovo Vibe k4 select Android Tablet)
8.Select MTP USB Device and press Next
9.The device driver will then install over the old one, and your Android device will be recognized as a multimedia device as a File Manager.
10. Congrats, you fixed it. Now whenever you open File Explorer you should see your Android device and be able to open it, browse the file system, and add or remove content as you like.
Assuming that you have Android on your phone ..

1. Given that your phone is Jellybean + version , the phone has several connectivity options when connected to the computer. When you connect to the computer , Check your phone's notification tray and see if it reads "USB Charging Only". In that case click on that and you will have four options to chose from.

Chose MTP or Media Transfer Protocol and you will have a media device showing among your hard drives on the computer within few seconds.

2. Another case will be instead of "USB Charging Only" you will get the option MTP or Media Transfer Protocol right from the start (that is you are still facing the problem after Case 1 or you were MTP all along). For most older versions of Windows (even XP) , the MTP format doesn't seem to work, so you have to follow the previous procedure and this time chose "USB Media Storage" and your phone will act as an External Storage device (like a Pendrive). You should get a drive added among your hard disks soon enough.

3. If the phone still shows charging then you have a damaged cable my Friend, or an earthing problem in your PC itself. Have to fix that or try on another system.

P.S : PTP/Camera option should work fine too if MTP fails.
Don't know the setup of your particular phone brand. In this regard different brands can vary as to the location (if any) of the USB connection options. A lot are only visible once the PC has been connected via a working USB cable.
Therefore try the following and see if anyone of them resolves your problem.
1. Try a different USB cable and/or USB port in your PC?
2. Visually inspect the USB port in your phone (with a magnifying glass) to ensure that there are no bent or broken connectors or dust in the slot. Do not prod about with anything if there is something in there. You may cause more damage. If it is lint or dust try to remove it with a vacuum cleaner.
3. Go to Menu > Settings > Storage > tap on 'settings' icon (3 vertical dots) in top right corner, tap on USB computer connection. Select option.
4. Go to Menu > Settings > Applications (Apps) > Development > USB Debugging ensure it is enabled.
